The focal point of these necklaces is a little stone llama fetish, hand carved by artisans in Peru from native semiprecious stone. This adorable llama is kushing and is about 1 1/2 inches tall. I have other designs with standing llamas. Each stone llama is completely unique in its coloration and has eyes made of glass. Each necklace is  beaded with an assortment of semiprecious stones and glass beads and accented with beads of silver and crystal. Most of these necklaces include matching earrings.

 
Originally, these carved figures were used as tools by tribal hunters. Before a hunt began, the hunter would sit in front of the figures of those animals he sought and ask for help in the hunt. By focusing on the fetish, the hunter could feel the essence of the animal, the way he moved and where his lair was likely to be.
Later, fetishes began to be used for healing and guidance. The belief is that each animal approaches life in its own way, and by studying these ways we might begin to live our lives in a manner that is more in tune with nature.
The traditional way to receive wisdom and guidance is to hold the fetish or to sit before it and meditate upon the animal it represents.
The llama fetish symbolizes freedom, stamina, and speed. The llama helps lead you on a safe journey. He can help you achieve inner peace and power of the soul.

Needle Felted Llamas

These llamas are made by a technique known as needle felting. This is a dry felting process using special barbed felting needles that push the top layer of wool into the layers below, causing the wool fibers to stick together and felt. The felting needle is poked thousands of times into the wool to eventually sculpt a shape. It takes many loving hours to create a figure using this needle felting technique.

These sculptures are made of 100% natural, undyed llama wool from our very own llamas.
